What actually works

We closed a seven-figure deal yesterday with a logistics company that told us no three times. The first time, we lost on price. The second time, we lost on timing. They'd just signed a two-year contract with a competitor. The third time, six months ago, their VP of Ops took a call and told us the competitor's implementation had stalled for four months. We didn't pitch. We asked her to describe the three biggest problems the stalled implementation was causing. She talked for 40 minutes. We came back with a 90-day deployment plan that addressed all three. The deal closed in six weeks. No discount. No negotiation on scope. Some deals close because you're cheaper. The best deals close because you listened longer than anyone else was willing to.
