What actually works

Last March I sent a cold LinkedIn message to the VP of Product at a company I wanted to work with. She never responded. Two weeks later, she posted about a problem her team was having with user onboarding drop-off. I recognized the pattern from something we'd solved at my company. So I replied to the post with a three-paragraph comment explaining the specific approach we'd used, including the metrics before and after. She DM'd me that afternoon. Not to say thanks. To ask if I'd be open to consulting for her team for a month. That one-month engagement turned into a six-month contract worth $72K. The cold message didn't work because it was about me. The public comment worked because it was about her problem. Nobody wants to be networked with. Everyone wants their problem solved. I've sent 200+ cold messages on LinkedIn.
