LinkedIn Post Example: Getting Laid Off

You just got laid off. Here's how to post about it in a way that gets you actual leads instead of pity likes.

What most people post

Well, it happened. After 4 amazing years, I was part of today's layoffs at TechCo. 😔 I'm grateful for every moment and every person I worked with. This team was like family. I'm now open to new opportunities! If you know of any roles in product management, I'd love to connect. Every ending is a new beginning! 💪 #opentowork #layoffs #productmanagement #hiring

What actually works

I was laid off from TechCo on Thursday. Part of a 200-person reduction. Here's what I was doing there, in case it helps someone think about where I'd be useful next. For the last two years, I ran the product team responsible for TechCo's self-serve onboarding flow. When I took it over, 40% of new signups completed onboarding. When I left, it was 73%. The changes we made added $2.8M in annual recurring revenue. The biggest lever was counterintuitive: we removed steps. The original flow had 14 screens. We cut it to 6 and let users skip everything except connecting their data source. Completion rate jumped 22 points in the first month. I'm looking for a product role at a B2B SaaS company where onboarding, activation, or self-serve growth is a priority. Series A to C. Happy to relocate. If that sounds like your team, I'm at sarah@email.com. If you know someone, a forward means more than a like.

Emojis (😔 💪) — emotional performance
"I'm grateful for every moment" — performative gratitude
Generic motivational language — "Every ending is a new beginning"
Vague ask — "any roles in product management"
Hashtag stacking — #opentowork #layoffs #productmanagement #hiring

The good version turns the post into a case study. Hiring managers reading it immediately understand what you did and what you're good at. The specific numbers prove your impact. The clear ask at the end makes it easy for someone to forward to the right person.
